7 Easy Steps to Create a Twitter Business Account

There are multiple social networking sites online but all people don’t use the same sites. That is why it is important to have a presence on all of the major networking sites to make sure your business is being seen by the most people possible. Today I’ll be showing you how to create a twitter business account in 7 easy steps.

Twitter is a social networking site that is more popular with a younger audience. Even if your business doesn’t cater to a younger demographic, you need a presence on Twitter to connect with others that may be using the service.

You can have multiple Twitter accounts, so if you want to keep your business account separate from your personal account you can.

Even though I’m showing you how to set up a Twitter business account, the same concept works for personal accounts too.

Step 1: Go to the Twitter Home Page (Twitter.com) and click on the Signup Button:

Step 2: Fill out the form and click the Sign up button to start the process. You can use your name or the name of your business for this step. You will choose your username in the next step. If you already have a Twitter account, make sure you use a different email or phone number to create a Twitter business account:

Step 3: If you would like to add your Phone Number you can do that on the page you see after clicking Sign up. This is not required and you can Skip this step to add it later if you’d like. I’ve pointed out the Skip link in the picture below as it is may not be obvious to see if you are not looking for it:

Step 4: Choose your username. This is one of the most important steps in setting up your account. You want to choose a username that represents your business and that is also available. Your username can be up to 15 characters long and must contain alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9) only. You can always change your username at a later date if you want to, but the sooner you can lock in the username you want to use the better. That way someone else can’t use it. If the name you choose is already taken it will tell you on this screen after you type it in. There is also the option to skip this step too if you want to.

You can choose any or all of these you are interested in and Twitter will make recommendations to you on who you can follow from what you choose. You are not required to follow anyone from this step, but choose at least one category and click next so you can finish setting up your account.

Step 6:  You can add a photo after choosing who you want to follow. If you want to add a photo later click on the “Skip This Step for now” link and add it at another time. If you do decide to add a photo now, the recommended size to use is 400 pixels x 400 pixels. The photo will be displayed at 200 x 200 but using 400 x 400 is recommended for best quality.

You will then be asked if you want to connect your Gmail or other email accounts so you can find your friends or contacts on Twitter. This is another option that you can skip or use complete now so you can add your friends, co-workers and other so they know what your new Twitter business account name is. If you choose to skip this step, note that the skip option is located on the right hand corner of the screen:

Step 7: Your Twitter account is now set up and you are ready to start “Tweeting.” Remember to verify the email that Twitter sends you in case you need to recover your password in the future. Before you start using your account, you’ll want to update a few of the settings and add a header picture to your account (recommended size: 1500 pixels x 500 pixels). You can do this by clicking on the Settings button on the top of your accounts home page and clicking on View Profile

From your Profile page you can click on Edit Profile to add/edit your profile and header picture and also add a bio, location, a link to your website etc. While you are editing your profile it will look like below:
