  • So you have a new website, now what? Tips to get more website traffic.

A few years ago, simply launching a new website provided you a fairly easy way to get new customers, visitors or leads. Today, however, you have some work to do to get or increase website traffic to your new site, especially with all of the recent and ongoing changes in search engine algorithms. Besides doing keyword research, optimizing your pages and link building (SEO), one of the most important things you can do to improve your ranking is to provide good, high-quality content on a regular and consistent basis. What is considered high-quality content? Glad you asked! Since you only have a few seconds to capture the attention of a visitor, your content must inform, tell a story, solve a problem, entertain and/or share relevant news that your target audience is looking for.

To create quality content, try stepping into the shoes of your customers and ask yourself a couple of questions like; “what’s in this for me?” and “how will this product or service help me or enhance my life or business?” Consider the types of questions your customers ask you. What tips, information or solutions can you provide to help them?

Once you’ve outlined the type of content (created or curated) your customers and website visitors want and need, I suggest sitting down and planning out a content calendar. Creating a content calendar may sound like a daunting task; however, you can easily break it down into sections. I’ve listed some ideas below:

    • Start with holidays – do you have any promotions, events or special discounts that may be tied to a holiday?
    • Industry shows and conferences – will you be attending any? If you think your customers will find them interesting then add that to the calendar.
    • Do you plan to host any events or training that you can tweet about? Add it to your content calendar.
    • What about providing your readers some tips or “how-to” information?
    • You can also consider what your best sources of information are and curate that content on your blog or social media sites. Bring information and news to your customers.

Plan your content in a variety of formats like an infographic, e-books, videos and text, then determine the best place to deliver your content… via a blog post, Facebook, LinkedIn or other social media sites you have established for your business.

Submit your business to online directories

Another step you can take to increase traffic is to add your business to online business directories. More and more people are searching online for products and services rather than using the old, outdated phone books and Yellow Pages. Each time you add your business to an online directory you improve your chances of being found both locally and worldwide. Here are 10 online directories you can start with:

    1. Google
    2. Bing
    3. Yahoo
    4. Yelp
    5. Hotfrog
    6. Best of the Web (BOTW )
    7. Merchant Circle
    8. Kudzu
    9. Local.com
    10. Manta
