HTTPS as a ranking signal
Back in August 2014, Google announced that HTTPS (adding a SSL 2048-bit key certificate on your site) websites would be given a small ranking boost to “encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.” At that time, Google mentioned that they might give it more weight in its search algorithm in the future. In early December 2015, Google posted an update, Indexing HTTPS pages by default and said, “…today we’d like to announce that we’re adjusting our indexing system to look for more HTTPS pages.”
HTTPS is a must for e-commerce websites to protect your customers’ login credentials and make sure payment transaction are secure. Based on Google’s recent articles and updates, it looks like they could start giving a ranking boost to HTTPS websites in the near future. Besides helping with your website’s page ranking, HTTPS will also help make your customers feel more secure doing business with you.
